Description:
The Government Hospital for Mental care, Visakhapatnam was started as Lunatic Asylum in British India in 1863 with 94 beds. Renamed in 1977, the hospital’s outpatient facility registers over 70,000 patients annually, and treats about 4000 patients in its 300-bedded inpatient facility. It is the only dedicated psychiatric institute in the entire state of Andhra Pradesh, and offers services also to the neighboring states Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Telangana.
